USask from above

As part of the U of S Canada 150 Project, the Research Profile and Impact Unit is working in collaboration with Media Production to capture beautiful views of campus from the air by drone, across the seasons.  A selection of that footage has been paired with the composition “The Roof” performed by the Greystone Singers under the direction of Jennifer Lang and written by Andrea Ramsey.  The video is being played to introduce certain U of S Canada 150 events.

The drone footage from the project can be made available for inclusion in other video projects across campus, upon request to Research Profile and Impact. Please contact Daniel Hallen (daniel.hallen@usask.ca) for more information.

Great War Memorial Bench

To mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the U of S Canada 150 Project is supporting the University of Saskatchewan’s Great War Commemoration Committee to create and install a memorial bench dedicated to the men and women of the campus who served their country from 1914 to 1918.

The Great War exacted a heavy human toll on the University of Saskatchewan. Of the 345 students, faculty and staff who enlisted, 69 "passed out of the sight of man by the path of duty and self-sacrifice." About 100 were wounded. 35 were awarded medals of valour.

Designed and created by local artisan Ryan Watson of Rocco Masons, the bench will sit at the south end of the plaza between the original campus residences. It would have been a place familiar to all who volunteered for duty.

Donations are currently being collected for this project. Any and all donations are very welcome. The goal is $20,000. Any funds in excess of that amount will be transferred to the general scholarship fund of the University of Saskatchewan. Donors will receive a charitable donation receipt.

To donate now please go to the Great War Memorial Bench Fund or visit this website.

#MyCanada 2067 Marquee Sign

For the month of September, the U of S was home to the Universities Canada marquee of lights that celebrates Canada’s anniversary of Confederation. People took pictures with the special Canada 150 sign and took the opportunity to tweet about what they would like Canada to be like in 2067 —50 years from now.
