The paper had its share of criticism and controversy, as it often featured racist and sexist material and strove to be outrageous and provocative.

One complaint lodged with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission alleged that The Redeye newspaper distributed on the campus of the university on Oct. 3, 1979, and Jan. 27, 1981, contained articles, notices, symbols and other representations that ridiculed, belittled and affronted the dignity of all women in Saskatchewan.

The commission agreed, but was later overruled in the Court of Queen’s Bench.
