Marie Battiste

Education professor

Marie, a Mi’kmaw scholar, knowledge keeper, and educator from Potlotek First Nation in Nova Scotia is a Professor of Educational Foundations and founder and first Academic Director of the Aboriginal Education Research Centre at the U of S. Her field of work focuses on decolonizing and indigenizing education. She has published numerous books and articles, and has inspired students through her deep commitment to her work. Marie is a member of the Royal Society of Canada and has four honourary degrees.
