The mid 1950s to the early 1960s were the golden years for the crowning of campus queens. Every college had one and "crowning" was a featured event of many college dances. The final event was the naming of the Campus Queen at the Corronation Ball. Queens were judged 40% on figure and beauty, 20% on personality, 20% on participation in campus activities and academic standing and 20% on poise, charm and grace. The above image is from the 11 December 1959 Sheaf, the accompanying caption reads: "Miss McLure, who was chosen from 15 candidates last Friday as Campus Queen, is in third year Arts, majoring in English. This year Margot is SRC vice-president, PKD president, a member of the Social Directorate and WAB, and chairman of the Activities committee. As well she is active in a number of intramural sports and took part in this year's parliamentary forum. The Sheaf wishes to congratulate Miss McLure. Besides being a very beautiful young lady she possesses the qualities of grace and charm that make her truly queen of campus."
