The caption, Prairie City in 1940, shows artist Ernest Lindner’s sincere interest in the contemporary scene, interpreting life around him.

The watercolor was purchased by the International Business Machines Corporation of New York and toured the country with its travelling exhibition.

This Sheaf supplement is a mixture of student poetry and prose with examples of work by Saskatchewan artists. The Literary Supplements were an intermittent feature, first appearing in 1922 with the 1940s seeing the most elaborate and frequent publications.

The 1942 issue was “sincerely dedicated” to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States.

Lindner was presented a U of S Honorary Degree in May 1972.
