Both programs have been marked success. Since 1976, when Saskatchewan began playing varsity volleyball, each has won four national championships. The game’s history on campus, however, is much older.

A strong intermural program emerged in the 1950s. The first intercollegiate game was in 1955 against the University of Alberta.

For the first two years the men’s intermural champions represented the university.  After that, a varsity all-star squad was formed.

The U of S has been host to several tournaments including Super Volley that started in 1973 and was at one time the largest volleyball tournaments in North America.

Several national teams have played on campus and there has been a longstanding relationship with Japanese volleyball. The U of S hosted the national men’s tournament for the second time in 2015.
